*insert cute & witty title here*

All I can focus on right now is the fact that my belly is full of garlic cheddar biscuits – a la Red Lobster.  Now that I’ve stated that fact, let’s carry on.

I’ll start with the least happiest piece of knitting news – the big bad baby blanket is gonzo.  Evidently I was not meant to knit a blankie for my nephew.  After failing on attempts #1 and #2 on the baby chalice blanket, I gave attempt #3 a try with the big bad baby blanket pattern (read all about that here, if you’re interested).  I’m such a slow knitter, so it took me what felt like eons to finish just one ball of yarn.  After joining the second ball and knitting about one third of it something became glaringly obvious – ball #2 was a whole lot more blue than the first.  To quote Mos Def’s character from Be Kind Rewind:  ”what the duck”.  What the duck, man!  Maybe the difference in colouration is not so noticeable to you, but it was enough for me to wave my white flag.baaaaaad baby blanket!I surrender.  I will not knit a blankie for my nephew.  I will find some other cute toy/sweater/hat, etc to work on and hope for a better outcome.  Suggestions?

Thankfully just before the baby blanket incident, I finished an awesome cowl using some awesome yarn.  It’s Balsam by Ilga Leja and I used just over one skein of Fleece Artist Woolie Silk 3-ply.  I so rarely block my knitted garments, but in this case it was necessary to widen the shoulder portion of the cowl.  In doing so I totally stretched out the neck part as well and when he tried it on it was just flimsy and lifeless.  I had no idea whether re-blocking would fix that mistake but I went ahead and tried it anyway, soaking only the neck portion in hot hot water, then pinned it back onto my blocking board.
random's request was a success! It worked!  And he modelled it for me too.  I still have just under one skein left of this yarn and am stumped as to what to make with it.  Matching fingerless mitts maybe?  But which pattern??  Again:  suggestions anyone?

Now that the baby blanket project has been squashed and his cowl is finished, I’m free to work on whatever I want – plus my March Sockdown! challenge socks; my periwinkleberries.  I worked on those at stitch ‘n bitch this week and got about 3 or 4 pattern repeats done.
WIP: periwinkleberriesAnd yes, I lay the sock in progress on top of the soon to be frogged baby blanket for this photo… Anyways, I’m pretty sure I’ll have to knit more than the 8 pattern repeats that Twinkleberry originally calls for – otherwise these will be more like ankle socks.  The yarn is super nice.  Soft and silverly blue.  Nummy.

Ooh I finally bought the Thermis pattern a couple weeks ago.  Trouble is, now I’m not sure what colour or type of yarn I want to use.  I’m trying to be good and not buy and new yarns, so I think it’ll have to be knit with something that’s already in my stash… But even then there’s too much to choose from!  I’ve narrowed it down to two choices:
future Thermis?I’m leaning towards the lilac colour.  Also want to make some *somewhat matchy* fingerless mitts for me too, to go with the cowl.  Oh gawd, and I have to choose buttons yet!  Dare I ask for your opinions again?  Geez, I’m super needy and indecisive today aren’t I?  LOL.

One final thought:  must dig out my spinning.  She has inspired me – what an amazing crafter!

(not quite a) professional golfer.

Tiger Woods be warned… You are in danger of being outshined by none other than mine own self. NOT!!! Canada Day was spent knocking golf balls around at a course just outside the city (and by ‘around’ I actually mean ‘in the water/sand/bushes’). This was my first time going golfing and I actually made it through ALL EIGHTEEN HOLES. Took us a good 3.5 hours and about 5 lost balls on my part, but we made it. Oh yes Mr. Woods, Knitting Daisy has conquered a novice par 3 course with a score of somewhere around *at least* 2 over par on *almost* every hole. You better watch out! LPGA Tour here I come. LMAO… It was fun though, once I got past the first hole where I almost gave up. It’s not as easy to hit the ball off the tee as you’d think! But the best part?fun times!I got to drive the cart :)

Let’s talk knitting. The top-secret, unbloggable WIP is about 70% complete. I was quite relieved to hear that I’ve got a little more time to finish said project, as originally I thought it would have to be done by the end of June… *whew*

Ideally I’d still like to have it finished by this coming Sunday, but I highly doubt it. Although I have received not one, but TWO packages filled with motivation – woo hoo! After the Wooly Bullies field trip to Sheeples last month, I ordered a drop spindle and roving online at Etsy. It came in the mail early last week. I was delighted and tried it out with the roving I picked up from Sheeples Fine Fibres right away. This:before...

Turned into this:...afterNow I know that doesn’t look like much, and it isn’t, but let’s all remember that I must must MUST keep trucking on the top-secret unbloggable project okay? Although I feel I should be completely honest and tell you that last night my handspun significantly increased somehow, tee hee hee.

"you spin me right round baby, right round..."                                "...like a record baby, round round, right round."

I needed a break alright? Sheesh. :)

So yeah, that was motivational package numero uno. Package number 2 arrived a couple days later but I was unable to pick it up until Sunday. Now this package was stuffed with a ‘kick in the arse’ — for my birthday I decided to splurge and ordered a bunch of that heavenly delicious fiber we call yarn. Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear me-eeeeeee, happy birthday to me!birthday delight!Let’s see, what have we got here… On the bottom is 1250 yards of Dream in Color Classy, a tasty superwash aran weight merino, which will eventually transform into an afghan.

Next up is a hand-dyed hank of MadelineTosh sock (orangey-blue-brown), it’s a merino/wool blend and I was hoping that a pair of socks would come out of it for my man. However when I proudly shoved the yarn in his face and said “you know what this is? it’s gonna be a pair of socks for YOU!”, he replied by saying “that would make for a nice scarf”. Right. A manly scarf out of fingering weight yarn. Maybe we can compromise with a pair of mitts or even a hat. We’ll see.

Alright so moving on, we have a soft, soft, super-soft ball of Classic Elite Yarns Alpaca Sox in a blue/green blend. It’s soft. I like it. It’s really, really soft.

And finally, at the very top of the pile lays my favourite of the bunch — a hank of Cherry Tree Hill’s Sockittome in Quarry Hill. It’s very colourful and I cannot wait to get my needles into it! Not exactly sure on which sock pattern I will use but I do like the Spring Forward design from Summer Knitty (speaking of Knitty, are the Summer surprises up yet?!!?)

Well thanks for stopping by my part of the blog-osphere, I hope you’ve enjoyed your time. Alas, now I must run away and pick up the needles on my unbloggable project… Until next time!

thirty plus one.

Once again I’ve waited too long to post in blog-land. Guess I should have lots to say this time…

I’ve completed another pair of socks, in the previously mentioned Froot Loop pattern. I really like them. So did my Mom. And it is she who wears them :P That’s okay, it keeps me wanting to knit more socks. Unfortunately I must hold and resist the intense urge to cast on for another pair of socks off while I work on a top secret, unbloggable project. I shall reveal this special WIP once it has reached it’s destination. End topic.

Deciding on which socks to cast on for next looks like it will prove to be a challenge. There’s just so many beautiful recipes to choose from! Artichoke, Spring Forward, Falling Leaves, Seduction… I think at this point it’s fairly safe to say that I am addicted to socks. They’re super fun, super quick projects, and the selection of sock yarns available – HUGE!

So what’s been happening since May? Well our local Stitch ‘n Bitch group have been testing out different outdoor patios for our weekly knit nights; that’s been fun. We also got a group of fibre geeks together and took a field trip out to a sheep farm, where we received a tour of the facilities as well as demonstrations on how wool is made – from the sheep to the skein. We even learned how to spin wool using a drop spindle. (Hmm, do I sense another addiction coming on?) Here’s a shot of us fibre geeks at Sheeples:

field trip!!!

And a picture of the wool that came home with me:fine fibresThis past Saturday was World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP). I hope that wherever you live, if you are a knitter, that you did your part by knitting in public. We held our event on a university campus and a good group of knitters, crochetters and spinners showed up with their WIPs and plenty of food to share.

It’s been a while since I tackled my yarn corner, so today I decided to tidy it up a bit. This is what it looked like before I touched it:disaster areabefore...

And this is afterwards:...afterYes that’s right, I basically shoved it all underneath the bench. And attempted to cover it up with a sheet. Works for me!

One more thing before I go… This past week my birthday happened to fall on the same day as the 2nd annual Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts / Winnipeg Arts Council Awards Show. Our theatre had a table at the luncheon and I was fortunate enough to attend. There were buttons left on each table for us to take home, so I picked out one of each.all about artThey’re totally cute. Bye for now!!!!!!!
