the ’sunday tea & toast’ post.

Move along.  There’s nothing to see here.

Seriously.  I have nothing to show you today.  What I should be doing is knitting.  Instead I’m here to tell you about the lack of knitting that’s been happening.

Deadlines:
Sockdown! January – my I Like Hip-Pomatomus’ socks are due by next Saturday.  Will be starting the second sock today.  Highly unlikely that I will meet this deadline.
Baby Chalice Blanket – due by March 16th.  Haven’t even finished the first pattern repeat…  Not feeling the pressure so much on this one though.  It may be a few days late.
Sockdown! February (1) - the heart-shaped socks which I had intended on finishing for Feb 14th (what was I smoking when I gave myself that deadline!?) are now on the back burner.  They will not be done before the Sockdown! finish date of March 31st.  I will not even attempt this.
Sockdown! February (2) - have not been cast on yet.  Making Fawkes socks; these must be cast on by Feb 28th and finished before Mar 31st.  I will do this.  I will.  I’m probably crazy to, but I will.

And that’s it for time-sensitive knitting.  There’s still my Seascape Stole and Lace Ribbon Scarf to work on too, but clearly I’m in no rush.  They’ll get done…eventually ;)

Is it bad that I’m already planning out my entry for the March Sockdown challenge?  Probably.

In other news…
-Yesterday my fiance and I hauled a few large bags of old clothes down to the VV boutique (that’s Value Village to those who don’t know).  Cleared up a nice chunk of space in our bedroom.  That felt good.

-Had to buy a new winter jacket, since the old one decided to commit zipper suicide the other day.

-Dad had a minor surgery last week in preparation of his upcoming battle.  (He has cancer; I don’t think I’ve ever come right out and said that to you.) He is now armed and ready.  To quote a dear friend: “It’ll be a rough road, but your dad’s driving a truck“.  We will conquer!   Wish him luck.

-I still have a beautiful new (and yet unused!) table in my dining room.  Are the seat cushions on?  Nope.  Do we have access to a drill?  Yep.  Will it get done today?  I sure as heck hope so.  (Sorry we’re taking so long ND!!!)

-Thinking ’bout Rusty.  We still have a lot of his stuff sitting out in our bedroom.  Went to move some of it around (now that the large bags of unused clothes are gone!) and I thought ‘why is this litter pan so heavy?’.  Yeah, that’s because there’s still litter in it (clean litter!  I was a good momma and cleaned it after every use).  It’s been just over one year since we lost our furbaby.  So today, after my sunday chores, it’s time to deal with that task.

beginnings, endings, and somewhere inbetween.

Yee-haw! Made it back from Tennessee in one piece. Aside from our temporary home, the biodome, we had a helluva good time.the "Biodome"(this is INSIDE the hotel, btw)

Explored places like a new symphony hall (opened in Sept ‘06),symphony hallthe Grand Ole Opry (where we saw Adam Gregory, a Canadian country star, have his Grand Ole Opry debut),Grand Ole Opry!and a popular three story country bar (where our very own band “The Tessiturians” took center stage – how cool is that?!).Tessitura represents!Unfortunately due to a couple of uncomfortable flights, not much knitting action happened. Managed to only get one pattern repeat worked on the Lace Ribbon Scarf. (This would be the ’somewhere inbetween‘ portion of this post title.) I really like how the scarf is working up so far and feel that it will be the project I go to when other WIPs are getting me down.

And being a silly girl I started a new project before I left :) (‘beginnings’…) Some socks for my man. I recently bought the Interweave Knits Favorite Socks book and really like the Merino Lace sock pattern. So loverboy’s socks are being knit with that pattern and some MadelineTosh sock yarn (acquired during my “thirty-plus-one” birthday shopping spree). Of course I enlisted the help of loverboy in winding his sock yarn into a ball. Really must invest in a ball winder one of these days – tho the wooden spoon method is a good alternative, lol.yarn swift/ball winderLastly, I had a sit down talk yesterday with the blanket I started about a month ago. We agreed that our relationship just wasn’t meant to be, and so frogged she be. (‘endings’…) I’m sure everyone has experienced this type of knitting break-up before. At the start you are so excited about the yarn, the pattern, the progress. Then you realize you just aren’t into it anymore. And sometimes that reality takes a while to sink in. You know the inevitable end is coming, but you just can’t face it yet. Yesterday I faced it. While I love the pattern AND the yarn individually, I just wasn’t feeling them together in the project.

so that’s how you do it.

I’ve been trying to figure out how so many knitters have been able to get their Ravelry project status bars show up on their blogs. And today I discovered how. Was actually pretty easy. But only after I stopped trying to paste the code into my blog header/title space. O.o !!! Guess I was taking Casey’s instructions a little too literally, lol.

Oooh. And then I was like ‘heck yeah i want pictures too’, so I pasted that code instead. Riiiiight. What’s the one thing I’m knitting right now? A TOP SECRET UNBLOGGABLE PROJECT. Hence pictures = BAD. Scratch the pictures, go back to just the simple progress bars. But again, helloooooooooo! Actual title of Top Secret Unbloggable Project appears above progress bar. Hmm… Could be a dead giveaway. Not taking any chances here. *whoosh!* Back to Ravelry — change project name to something that doesn’t allow for any guesses. Hehehe. Sneaky sneakerton.

Now if only I could figure out how to add in a Flickr photostream or something of the like…

And a photo of Rusty from last July just because I’ve been missing him so much lately. Momma loves you, baby bear <3the sunshine prince

feeling raverly-ous! (and it’s been awhile…)

So yes, a good chunk of time has passed since I last dabbled on my blog. Blame the knitting needles, work (darn job! stupid bills that need to be paid!!), unsuccessful attempts to remember how to crochet, and life. Oh, not to mention the big holiday season that is beginning to loom upon us… Ack! Everyone getting ready for Christmas? I know you fellow knitters are!

As I write this, I must note, there is a large white & orange cat curled up between me and the keyboard. This makes for an interesting typing stance. You try banging out words with a cat snuggled up on your forearm! LOL.

Ah Ravelry… Finally! Access to the most beautiful world of yarn, WIPs, FOs, and inspiration for new projects. Simply amazing it is. I highly recommend you get your name on their waiting list for an invite to the site (
https://www.ravelry.com/account/login). Well worth the wait. This community along with Facebook (what you don’t have a Facebook account either? click this: http://www.facebook.com/) have proven to be fantastic ways to waste away your lunchbreak and/or any and all free time you may encounter. Hello Facebook Scrabulous addict – this is me.

)

Lately I have been having a blast with some gals (bitches?) who belong to a Stitch ‘n Bitch group. The group was started on Facebook (see? Facebook’s great!) and about 5-10 of us meet up every week at a local pub for knits and giggles. We’ve done a couple of knit/crochet-alongs together which is handy for learning new techniques or mastering ones you may have recently learned. All in all, it’s a fun bunch of ladies to hang out with and I’m glad to have had to opportunity to meet them via cyberspace (thanx FB!).
Let’s see… what’s on the needles these days… We’ve got:
- Zeeby’s Bag (totebag) for me (teal merino) 95% complete – just need to line and sew the bag.
- Knucks for Dad (black tweed wool) 50% complete – one more hand to go!
- Fetching.1 for ??? (Noro Kureyon) 45% complete – must finish thumb, then make 2nd glove.
- Fetching.2 pour moi (bright purple merino) 10% complete – loving the colour so far.
- a reversible cabled scarf for ??? (Noro Silk Garden) 15% complete – beautiful colourways.
and finally the crochet project that’s got me slightly frustrated:
- an Amigurumi bunny for ??? (2 complementary colours of wool) 0.5% complete – I can’t even count the number of times I have cast on and frogged the bunny head…

Oh and there will be so much more to be added onto the knit-list; a handful of smaller projects as gifts for family and friends.

Guess I’d better get to it! Ciao :P
